DESCRIPTION:About\nTowthorpe Manor is a family run driven game shoot\, Situated in Yorkshire’s East Riding near Driffield\, the attractive Wolds countryside is dissected by the rolling fields\, woodland and deep sided valleys\, enabling the presentation of testing pheasants and partridges. The estate starts to shoot partridges from the beginning of October\, moving into mixed days from November onwards\, which predominatley becomes more pure pheasant days as the season goes on. Some of the drives offer stunning views of the countryside which can extend for miles in places. Towthorpe is situated 9 miles from Pocklington and 10 miles from Malton\, making it an ideal place for people wanting back to back days with the leading top shoots in the area. \n\nShoot day format \nArrive at Towthorpe Manor shoot lodge at 9am for breakfast rolls and coffee. \nGuns to drive off in their own vehicles to the drives\, doing two great sporting drives before stopping \nfor elevenses. High pheasants\, testing crossers\, and fast\, curling birds are presented to the line\, offering excitement and variety for both experienced Guns and those newer to the sport. \nThe estate’s setting on the edge of Cannock Chase provides a picturesque and private environment\, where attention to detail and a warm welcome are at the forefront of the day. Drives are carefully designed to replicate traditional game shooting\, making full use of the landscape to produce birds that are both sporting and rewarding. \nA typical day begins with a warm reception and refreshments\, followed by a safety briefing and the drawing of pegs before heading out into the field. The shoot is proud of its commitment to traditional driven shooting\, offering exceptional sport for guns of all abilities. \nFrom open fields where birds are driven in full view from the hilltops\, to exhilarating snap shooting in the deep glens with birds sweeping down from natural woodland\, each drive provides a unique and memorable experience shaped entirely by the landscape. \nLochryan has been a successful and well-regarded shoot for over 30 years\, originally managed by my father. Having lived on the estate for most of my life and now working here full-time\, I was delighted to take on the shoot following the retirement of the previous agent. We remain a truly traditional shoot\, birds are hand-fed\, no cover crops are used\, and all drives are created from the estate’s natural surroundings\, something many visiting teams greatly appreciate. \nA Day at Lochryan\n\n8:45am – Arrival at the shoot lodge for coffee\, a safety briefing\, and peg draw\n9:30am – Depart for the first drive\n\nThe morning typically includes two or three drives\, followed by elevenses taken in the field. These can feature local oysters\, enjoyed while overlooking the very loch they are harvested from\, a highlight for many guests. \nDepending on the weather and timing\, we may pause for a relaxed sit-down lunch in the lodge (homemade soup and rolls)\, or continue shooting and dine later in the day. \nA full day usually consists of five to six drives\, featuring both pheasant and partridge\, with plenty of refreshments including fizz and gin\, enjoyed throughout. \nWe round off the day back at the shoot lodge with drinks\, cakes\, and a chance to reflect on a fantastic day’s sport. \nNon shotgun licence holders are welcome as this is shared pegs
