Amport Trout Fishery is a small, still water trout fishery located in the picturesque county of Hampshire, just a few short miles from Andover, off the A303 close to the villages of Thruxton and Amport. The lake is set in idyllic surroundings, gin-clear chalk springs keep the lake cool and crystal clear throughout the year, the clarity of the water makes for a perfect stalking lake, which is well stocked with Rainbow Trout providing the ideal, relaxed and tranquil venue for fly fishing. The fishery has been operating since 2006 and has welcomed people from all over the United Kingdom and the rest of the world, for a day, half a day or more of peaceful fishing. Owned and operated by William (Will) Hawkings-Byass, the fishery was originally set on the site of old watercress beds. Will dedicated seven years of hard labour and commitment to convert these beds and create the stunningly peaceful trout lake it is today. Will carries extensive knowledge regarding trout and is always on hand to welcome guests and is happy to offer any advice on fly fishing if needed. Since the lake opened progress and development continues. Will works hard to encourage the plant life, the grass is well established and provides excellent cover for insects and birdlife around the lake. We have recorded 19lb 6oz trout caught here at Amport Trout Fishery and regularly record fine catches of between 4lb and 5lb.
