About – Simulated Game Day at Hay Lane Farm

Set in the heart of the Cotswolds, Hay Lane Farm is a working beef farm spanning 300 acres of stunning countryside, featuring a thrilling mix of steep banks, wooded hills, and natural valleys. Renowned for its high bird syndicate during the game season, the farm is known for delivering exceptional shooting experiences, making it the perfect location for a simulated game day.

Using the incredible natural topography to full advantage, this simulated shoot offers a variety of exciting and challenging drives, ensuring a memorable and exhilarating day in the field. From gentle partridge drives to high pheasant flushes over deep valleys, every drive is carefully designed to test and refine your shooting skills.

Itinerary – A Full Day of Simulated Game Shooting

  • 9:00 AM – Meet at the Royal Oak, Leighterton
    • Welcome with bacon rolls and coffee
    • Safety briefing & peg draw
  • 10:00 AM – Depart for Hay Lane Farm (a short drive from the Royal Oak)
  • 10:30 AM – First Drive: Fishponds Bank
    • A gentle partridge drive to ease into the day’s shooting
  • 11:00 AM – Drinks Break
    • A short refreshment stop before the next drive
  • 11:30 AM – Second Drive: Poplars
    • A high bank drive presenting a high volume of mixed partridge and pheasant
  • 12:00 PM – Elevenses Break
    • Soft drinks and light snacks served in the field
  • 12:30 PM – Third Drive: Kenny’s Stones
    • A high pheasant drive set in open fields
  • 1:00 PM – Final Drive Preparation
    • Move to the last location for the most challenging drive of the day
  • 1:30 PM – Fourth Drive: Masons Tip
    • An extreme high pheasant drive, where birds are driven from a high-sided valley over the awaiting guns
  • 2:00 PM – Return to the Royal Oak  for a Two-Course Lunch
    • Relax and enjoy a delicious meal in a traditional country pub

This simulated game day at Hay Lane Farm offers thrilling shooting, exceptional hospitality, and a fantastic social experience, making it an unmissable day for both seasoned and aspiring guns alike.

Accommodation

For those looking to stay over, accommodation is a popular option on our shoots and can be arranged in the group chat before the event. Your host will help find the perfect Airbnb, making it a great opportunity to relax, get to know each other, and enjoy a meal together the night before. Local ladies are also welcome to join us for the evening meal if they fancy making a night of it! It’s the perfect way to experience a CGUK Sim Day—turning it into a full weekend of fun!

Cartridges

No plastic wads are permitted on any CGUK shoots. If you don’t have access to suitable cartridges, don’t worry—our team can provide them for you at an additional cost. Please let us know in advance if you need any.

Gun Hire

Gun hire is available throughout the day for an additional cost.

Transport

4x4s are required for this shoot. Car sharing can be arranged in the group chat before the day.

Dress Code

Smart-casual, with weather considerations. Final decisions can be discussed in the group chat before the event.

Please note: A cap, ear protection, and eye protection MUST be worn at all times while on the peg during a Simulated Game Day.
