Set in the breathtaking Upper Severn Valley, Llyn Clywedog is a 615-acre reservoir renowned as one of Wales’ premier trout fisheries. Originally built in the 1960s to regulate river flow and prevent flooding, it has since become a world-class destination for anglers, offering exceptional fishing conditions year-round.
Managed by the Llanidloes and District Angling Association, the fishery reinvests all proceeds back into improvements, ensuring top-tier maintenance and an annual stocking of around 40,000 high-quality trout. At over 900 feet above sea level, the lake remains cooler in summer, allowing trout to feed consistently, while prolific hatches of buzzers, terrestrials, and the famous Coch y Bondu beetle provide excellent sport.
Guiding the day is Hywel Morgan, a world champion fly caster and one of Wales’ most respected fly fishing instructors. Having represented Wales at numerous international competitions, Hywel brings decades of experience fishing large Welsh reservoirs, small still waters, natural lakes, and rivers.
A regular at fishing shows and casting demonstrations, Hywel is a passionate advocate for helping anglers of all abilities improve their technique and catch more fish. His friendly and approachable teaching style, combined with unrivaled expertise, makes him the perfect guide for this incredible fishing experience.
