Meet Megan, our brilliant East Midlands ambassador, a keen shot, proud gundog owner and all-round amazing woman. From clay lessons with her other half to unforgettable game days across the UK, Megan has embraced every opportunity CGUK offers. In her latest blog she shares her journey, favourite moments and how the CGUK community has shaped her shooting life.

I started having shooting lessons at my local clay ground alongside my other half. We wanted to start a hobby together and soon got the bug for it. I found CGUK through Instagram back in Covid and joined some of their virtual gin nights. As soon as the world reopened, I booked onto my first Simulated Day in Yorkshire. Since then I’ve been on gundog training days, game days and I’m heading to my first fishing event in a few weeks.

I love the feeling of community and the genuine happiness you see out in the field, whether it’s someone working their dog, shooting their first bird or just getting the buzz on a clay day.

CGUK has given me opportunities I would never have had without it. I wouldn’t have been able to shoot at some of the incredible locations I have, including Scotland, Devon and the Lake District. But most importantly it has brought me some of my best friends, friends who share a love for sport, our dogs and the countryside and for that I couldn’t be more grateful.

I remember heading to my first event knowing nobody! I shared a lift with someone else from my region, which helped, but I was still so nervous until I got there. Everyone was so lovely, and you soon realise we are all in the same boat and we all had to turn up to our first event once. Once you’ve been to one, I promise you will want to keep booking.

One of my favourite events has to have been Auchencheyne in January ’25. We spent the weekend in Scotland, it snowed and the birds were incredible. Pretswold Hall will always be another standout moment for me as I shot my first partridge there. But I genuinely feel such joy on all the days – especially game days. I love to see the dogs working and to be surrounded by great friends and good food.
