We still have a limited number of places available for our 200-bird Pheasant & Partridge Day at Towthorpe Manor on Saturday 17 October 2026.

Set in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds near Driffield, Towthorpe is a fantastic family-run driven shoot, with rolling farmland, woodland and deep-sided valleys producing testing, sporting birds — alongside some incredible views across the East Riding countryside.

The day includes:

• Breakfast rolls and coffee on arrival
• Four sporting drives
• Elevenses
• Full hospitality throughout the day
• Sit-down meal and wine back at the shoot lodge

Shared pegs are available, so non-licence holders are very welcome.

October is here, the pheasant season is getting underway, and tomorrow we’re kicking things off with a partridge day! 🤍

There’s something so nostalgic about being out in the field with women who understand you, get you and are on the same wavelength. The laughter, fresh air, shared moments and friendships made along the way make these days so special.

We can’t wait to get the season started and make more memories together. Here’s to a brilliant season ahead! 🐾🌾

Next weekend marks our first game day of the season at CGUK, and we couldn’t be more excited. We’ll be heading to a spectacular estate for a stunning partridge day on ground that has never previously been open for let days.

These days are about so much more than shooting. They are about friendships, confidence, shared experiences and getting to enjoy the countryside alongside like-minded women.

Not so long ago, women were not even allowed to stand in the gun line. We’re proud of how far things have come, but we cannot take those opportunities for granted.

Game shooting is under attack, and Defra’s current review is a chance for all of us to share what it truly means.

If shooting has had a positive impact on your life, supports your business, contributes to conservation or farming, or simply gives you the chance to leave office politics behind and enjoy the countryside, please tell Defra your story.

Email gamebirds@defra.gov.uk. It can be a few lines or something more detailed, but every perspective matters.

Women were once kept out of the gun line. We don’t want a future where no one has the opportunity to stand on one. Let’s make sure the reality of game shooting is heard.

End of September is only just over a week away - pheasant season incoming!!!!

September has given us our first days back in the field and now October is almost here🍂

As the pheasant season approaches, it’s worth remembering that good shooting isn`t measured simply by the bag.

Safe shooting. Sporting birds. Clean shots. Proper retrieval. Respect for quarry, countryside and everyone sharing it.

Those are the standards that make a good shoot day a great one.

Have a fantastic game season to everyone joining us throughout this season, I am sure you will all do CGUK proud.

Our family days are always some of our favourites. They’re such a lovely chance to bring everyone together, meet our members’ partners and parents, and get to know our ladies even better away from the usual events.

Yesterday at Dovey Valley was no exception. The weather was absolutely horrendous, but it didn’t dampen the mood one bit. Our team had the best day, with phenomenal hospitality, incredible food and such a warm welcome throughout.

The clays were brilliant, with a fantastic mix of targets and some seriously challenging high birds that definitely kept us on our toes!

A huge thank you to the whole Dovey Valley team for looking after us so well. We had the best time, rain and all! ...

Shooting and Conservation 🌿

Shooting doesn’t exist separately from the countryside around it. They are intrinsically linked, and understanding that relationship is such an important part of being involved in our sport.

Across the UK, shoot managers, gamekeepers, farmers and landowners actively work to improve and manage habitats, support wildlife, protect sensitive areas and ensure shooting is carried out sustainably.

From woodland and hedgerow management to cover crops, wetland areas, predator control and creating habitats that benefit a huge variety of species, there is so much happening behind the scenes throughout the year.

That wider picture of habitat, biodiversity, game management and conservation is a really important part of understanding where our sport fits within the countryside and the responsibility that comes with taking part in it.

And it’s something we’d love to help more women experience and understand first-hand.

Our CGUK shooting events aren’t just about the day’s shooting. They’re about learning, asking questions, understanding the countryside around you and gaining confidence in an environment where you might otherwise feel nervous about getting involved.

Whether you’ve never been on a shoot day before, you’re just starting your journey or you’re already experienced in the field, we would absolutely love to welcome more of you along this season🦆

Leave nothing behind

Spent cartridges, litter and rubbish don`t belong in the countryside.

Most shoots will now specifically request the use of degradable wads where possible and cartridge cases and other litter should be removed after the day. It`s not cool to still use plastic wads if asked not to do so!

A simple rule for all of us:

Leave the countryside as you would hope to find it.

What is your top tip for those wanting to get involved in shooting? ...

One principle that should never get lost:
Game is food.
Shot game should be handled with the same respect we give any other food product retrieved properly, handled hygienically and ultimately enjoyed.
Taking home a brace, learning how to prepare game and understanding where our food comes from is all part of the shooting story.

PS we know it isn`t quite pheasant season yet but our freezers are ready and waiting when it is. What is your fav pheasant recipe? We love a Pheasant Curry - top tip marinade for 12 hours or overnight 😋

The dogs behind the day 🐾

There are few sights better than a good dog working on a shoot day.

But their role is far more important than simply being part of the atmosphere.

Dogs are an essential part of retrieving shot game, helping ensure that birds are properly recovered.

Behind many memorable days in the field is a very good dog doing a very important job.

Tag your invaluable four legged friend in the comments or your favourite trading buddy- and yes we love to see pictures too 💖 ...

Respect for quarry 🤎

Respect for quarry doesn’t finish when the shot is fired.

Every bird should be marked, retrieved and treated appropriately. Guns, pickers-up and our dogs all have a part to play in making sure wounded or shot game is recovered quickly and humanely.

It’s one of the fundamentals of responsible shooting and something we should never become casual about.

And this is exactly why the work we put into our gundogs matters so much 🐾

A well-trained, confident gundog isn’t just a joy to work alongside in the field. They have an incredibly important role to play in finding and retrieving shot or wounded game efficiently and humanely.

Our gundog training events are designed to help you build those skills together, whether you’re at the very beginning of your journey or looking to develop a dog already working in the field.

Knowing your limits is good shooting

One of the most important skills in game shooting?

Knowing when not to pull the trigger.

The Code of Good Shooting Practice asks Guns to shoot within their own abilities, understand range and only take birds they can kill cleanly and consistently.

There is no shame in leaving a bird. Good judgement will always matter more than the number on the game card.
