Every so often, someone joins our community who reminds us exactly why The Country Girls UK exists. Marlene is one of those women. While completing all of the events in her story, she’s been living in both Ireland and France, flying in especially for our days and staying in shared accommodation with our ladies. Her dedication, her energy, and the time she has committed to being part of CGUK never go unnoticed. We’re always so grateful to have her with us and we truly love spending time with her.
As a Loyalty Card finisher, Marlene has also earned £150 in credit towards her next CGUK event, a small thank you for the commitment she’s shown to her journey and to our community.
What follows is Marlene’s story in her own words: a journey filled with discovery, connection, courage, and a deepening love for the countryside and the women who share it with her.
It began on 12.08.23 — my first clay shoot with the Country Girls. What started as curiosity quickly became something far deeper. Since that day, I’ve travelled across the UK, discovering its quiet, rural corners and meeting extraordinary women who share a love for the countryside, tradition, and the rhythm of the seasons.
By 25.11.23 in Kirkoswald, I found myself on one of my first live game days. A crisp, bright morning, high birds, and a touch of nervous excitement — it was a challenge that awakened something within me.
A week later, 02.12.23 in Littleton, I booked a novice peg and spent the day with a patient coach, Cyril — the man who would teach me the art of gun fit. That single insight transformed my understanding of shooting entirely.
Then came 13.04.24 in Scotland — a journey into true fieldcraft. From deer stalking and pigeon shooting to dissecting and preparing my first deer, it was a humbling and powerful experience. Scotland gave me a new kind of respect for what it means to take part in the full cycle, from field to fork.
13.07.24 in Great Tew reignited my love for simulated days — endless clays, laughter, and the shared focus that makes the sport so addictive. It was less about precision and more about pure joy.
By 11.01.25 at Davenport House, the fog was so thick you could barely see the line, but that didn’t stop us. Between sloe gin and slow partridges, I took my very first one — a small but unforgettable milestone.
And most recently, 17.05.25 in Devon, where shooting met celebration. Stunning countryside, perfect company, a barbecue, and laughter spilling into the evening. It reminded me that these days are about so much more than the sport — they’re about connection, nature, and the luxury of shared moments outdoors.
