My name is Dawn and as of January 2023, I am a new ambassador with The Country Girls UK and so looking forward to getting stuck in!
I live on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border in a lovely village and have 4 grown-up boys, a husband and 2 dogs.
I’ve always been around and involved in the countryside one way or another. I had horses when I was growing up and then went on to work with horses on leaving school. I then set up a Country Clothing shop at the age of 19, followed by another one 2 years later. I continued running these businesses for 15yrs until I, unfortunately, lost a child and my marriage broke down.
My shooting journey started by watching my ex-husband and just loving the whole thing. Fast forward to the ripe old age of 49yrs and having gone through cancer and various other illnesses, I had a bucket list that I had to do! I bumped into an old friend whom I had not seen for 20yrs and she happened to mention that she had just taken up shooting. With this being something on my bucket list, we made plans to go together and within a week we were heading up to Warren Gill (now E.J.Churchill) to give it a go! I absolutely loved it, and having not had a hobby for 25 years due to raising my family, I was immediately hooked.
My shooting journey has not been easy as various operations have meant I’ve had to take various 6 months off through the last 5 years, but I’m determined to keep going and desperate to get better at it!!
I was very fortunate to become a host for the Shotgun & Chelsea Bun Club – this was a way of encouraging more ladies into the sport. I have absolutely loved this role and I have been able to make many new friends along with presenting me a number of opportunities. I am now really excited about the future after taking on the Regional Ambassador role with The Country Girls UK.
I’ve been a member of The Country Girls UK from the very start and am a huge supporter – I’m always telling as many people as I can about it! You really do have to believe in the product and I can honestly say it’s the most enjoyable shooting I do. I just love absolutely everything about their days, again close friends have been met, weekends away, evenings out, and a whole new social life has come from being a member.
I can’t wait to meet more of you and bring some exciting events across the Midlands!
