About

Set along the stunning shores of Loch Ryan in southwest Scotland, Lochryan Estate spans approximately 2,000 acres of breathtaking and varied terrain. The shoot is proud of its commitment to traditional driven shooting, offering exceptional sport for guns of all abilities.

From open fields where birds are driven in full view from the hilltops, to exhilarating snap shooting in the deep glens with birds sweeping down from natural woodland, each drive provides a unique and memorable experience shaped entirely by the landscape.

Lochryan has been a successful and well-regarded shoot for over 30 years, originally managed by my father. Having lived on the estate for most of my life and now working here full-time, I was delighted to take on the shoot following the retirement of the previous agent. We remain a truly traditional shoot, birds are hand-fed, no cover crops are used, and all drives are created from the estate’s natural surroundings, something many visiting teams greatly appreciate.

A Day at Lochryan

  • 8:45am – Arrival at the shoot lodge for coffee, a safety briefing, and peg draw
  • 9:30am – Depart for the first drive

The morning typically includes two or three drives, followed by elevenses taken in the field. These can feature local oysters, enjoyed while overlooking the very loch they are harvested from, a highlight for many guests.

Depending on the weather and timing, we may pause for a relaxed sit-down lunch in the lodge (homemade soup and rolls), or continue shooting and dine later in the day.

A full day usually consists of five to six drives, featuring both pheasant and partridge, with plenty of refreshments including fizz and gin, enjoyed throughout.

We round off the day back at the shoot lodge with drinks, cakes, and a chance to reflect on a fantastic day’s sport.

Non shotgun licence holders are welcome as this is shared pegs

Cartridges

We kindly ask that no plastic wads are used on any of our CGUK shoots. If you don’t have access to suitable cartridges, don’t worry, our team can provide them for you.

All empty cartridges will be collected on the day and either recycled or repurposed for artistic use.

Instructor

If you’d like a qualified shooting instructor on the peg with you, we can arrange this at an additional cost. Just let us know at the time of booking so we can get everything organised in advance.

Transport

Please note that a 4×4 vehicle will be required for this shoot. If you don’t have access to one, don’t worry — car sharing can easily be arranged within the group.

Dress Code

We love to see traditional shooting attire on our game days, but don’t worry — tweed isn’t a must. Final outfit plans can be discussed in the group chat closer to the day, depending on the weather.

Accommodation

Group accommodation can be arranged and will be discussed in the group ahead of the event.
